How can I get on stage at Brisbane Arts Theatre?
Our Artistic Pathways: 2020 Engagement Framework is the strategy that enables us to offer an unparalleled number of opportunities for performers throughout our theatre company's annual season of works. We are absolutely committed to the growth and development of Brisbane talent, and we recognise the time and nurturing that this takes with each individual. As a result, Brisbane Arts Theatre rarely has opportunities for once-off engagements, but is able to provide you with long-term support in one of our artistic programmes.
Our mainhouse productions are generally not opened to an audition process. Regular Brisbane Arts Theatre patrons love to be a part of the growth of our passionate, committed performers. Because our audiences love to watch our actors explore a wide range of challenging and diverse roles on the stage, we match principal roles in our mainhouse season with members of our stock company, while other roles are offered to students of our education programmes or members of our youth development programme.
Our parody productions may be opened to an audition process where required. Priority for casting is offered to performers who have already demonstrated a commitment to Brisbane Arts Theatre's values and artistic objectives.
Our children's productions are always opened to an audition process, and are an excellent opportunity for teenagers and young adults to perform for sold-out audiences. Watch our auditions page for opportunities.
Brisbane Arts Theatre's Stock Company is the troupe of actors from which our mainhouse productions are cast. The ensemble is made up of straight-play actors and musical theatre performers. It is diverse, featuring seasoned professional performers, alongside emerging artists with a gifted talent.
Auditions for our Stock Company are by invitation. Our Artistic Director may offer an audition invitation to students from our actor training programmes, graduates of our youth development programme, or to performers who have demonstrated a commitment to Brisbane Arts Theatre.
New Stock is Brisbane Arts Theatre's youth development programme, offering outstanding opportunities for young emerging artists. Potential New Stock members are identified through the performance ensemble audition process or from an existing commitment to our children's theatre seasons. Members of New Stock benefit from extensive development opportunities, including one-on-one mentoring from Brisbane Arts Theatre's Artistic Director through a year-long performance development programme and suitable placements that match their key developing skill sets as supporting performers in our mainhouse seasons, or as creative personnel in our children's theatre seasons.
Tech Stock is Brisbane Arts Theatre's group of technicians, who are our sound & lighting designers & operators, audio engineers and stage managers in our mainhouse and parody seasons. Members of Tech Stock generally graduate from volunteering in our children's theatre, or are offered a place on the basis of their existing experience. If you have existing experience in technical production, apply to our Company Manager.
Our children's theatre is iconic in its own right—serving as the first taste of theatre for children for over 50 years. But it is also the starting point for young performers and developing technicians. Open auditions are held throughout the year for roles on stage in each children's theatre production, while applications for volunteer roles in technical production are open all year round. Our children's theatre serves as the gateway to New Stock and Tech Stock.
