The Acting Performance Skillset CUASS0073 is a nationally accredited short course aimed at intermediate level performers to help them gain the skills required to enhance their training to a level where theory becomes practical. The units contained in the course are foundation study allowing a broad based approach to entry level formal training. The course offers training in the development of acting technique, stagecraft skills, audition techniques, history of theatre and freelance services which focuses on the support systems needed to prepare for life as a performer.
Enrolment within this program places students in a prime position to be offered performance opportunities in drama festivals, showcases and (if suitable) shows within the Brisbane Arts Theatre season.
Why should I study at Brisbane Arts Theatre?
Brisbane Arts Theatre is one of the oldest theatre companies in Queensland providing entertainment and educational services in South East Queensland for over 85 years. The company is the largest not for profit community theatre in Australia with a diverse annual season of up to 20 individual productions taking the stage. Brisbane Arts Theatre provides hundreds of opportunities yearly for people to “get involved” with us creatively. Brisbane Arts Theatre prides itself on being a safe, nurturing non judgemental community.
Eligibility
Students must complete a LLN (language, literacy and numeracy) survey as part of the enrolment process.
There are no formal prerequisites for this program, however as this is an intermediate level course we recommend completing our Level 1 Introduction to the Stage Workshop or have the relevant demonstrated performance experience.
FAQs
The VET system in Australia uses units of competency as its basic building blocks. Each unit of competency has defined learning outcomes (knowledge, skills and their application parameters), which are measurable in their own right, but which also contribute to larger education outcomes. When units of competency are combined into an interrelated set below the level of a full qualification, they are now commonly referred to as ‘skill sets’.
The Acting Performance skill set contains six units of competency of which five each are relative to be considered RPL (recognised prior learning) if a student wishes to study at a higher level of Vocational Education and that course contains the same or comparable units of competency.
Units that will be trained are
CUAACT411 – Use acting techniques in performance
CUAMPF412 – Develop and apply stagecraft skills
CUAACT311 – Develop basic acting techniques for performance
CUAWHS312 – Apply work health and safety practices
CUAPRF314 – Develop audition techniques
CUAIND412 – Provide freelance services
