New Stock is a creative development programme designed for intermediate level performers to have the opportunity to work with industry professionals to expand their range across acting, singing and movement. It focuses strongly on the audition process and aims to develop the performer’s audition technique and skill set.
Our New Stock is an opportunity for young and emerging artists to further develop and fine tune their performance skills. In this year-long performance development programme, the New Stock students will explore a multitude of acting techniques, and how they can apply them to be a successful performer. Classes will focus on how to succeed in auditions, the acting process and the techniques that come with being a well-rounded performer, monologues, duologues and script work.
Students will have the opportunity to perform at the student showcase at the end of terms 2 and 4, allowing them to display the skills they have gained from the course to friends and family. Brisbane Arts Theatre is an active performance venue and an iconic theatre company in Brisbane. Aside from the two student showcases, each year, we stage successful Children’s Theatre and Mainhouse seasons that we encourage our New Stock students to audition for.
New Stock in take is strictly limited and requires a successful audition. Auditions only take place once a year. New Stock students are required to assist in the technical production of at least 2 Children’s Theatre shows, with the option to attribute those hours to their school work experience credits. Students are expected to maintain an 80% attendance rate in order to keep their space in the New Stock classes.
Auditions are held at the end of the year, prior to admission. This usually takes place between October and November. Keep an eye on the enrolment button, and our Facebook page for the audition announcement!
New Stock is a smaller group of students, allowing tutors to personalise the lesson, honing in on the skills each student has, or may need improvement on. New Stock is a slightly more advanced experience, focusing on the audition process for teens who already have a diverse experience in theatre.
